Buffalo Gay

Mens Chorus

The Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus is  a nationaly recognized musical group that is dedicated to producing vocal music of high quality in the rich tradition of men’s choral singing. They seek through song not only to entertain, but to enlighten. They sing to create harmony as we celebrate pride in the community and in ourselves.

HISTORY
In January 2000, a small group of men sought to fill the need in having an all-male choral group here in Western New York whose mission was to give “a voice” to our local LGBT community. This idea was conceived in 1999 and through the vigorous efforts of a few, the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus (BGMC) became a reality on January 15, 2001. The BGMC’s first rehearsal was scheduled for September 11, 2001. Though that day was a tragic day for all Americans, BGMC decided to proceed with their plans in having their first rehearsal and come together with song in this time of great sorrow. It was an evening of reflecting, sharing, and mediation as well as a new beginning. That night was the formation of, what was and continues to be, a most formidable group of men sharing a common bond that still holds true today.  The Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus is a nonprofit, charitable 501 (c) 3 organization, with a board of directors.

OUR VISION
To be the premier men’s choral arts ensemble of Western New York, growing and nurturing the legacy set forth by the founding brothers. We are ambassadors of brotherhood and of community embracing diversity and motivating social acceptance, not only for the LGBT community, but for all who have similar songs in their hearts.

OUR MISSION
The Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus is dedicated to producing vocal music of high quality in the rich tradition of men’s choral singing. We sing to create harmony as we celebrate pride in the community and in ourselves. We seek through song not only to entertain, but to enlighten.

The Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus takes great pride in what it has been able to accomplish in the 15 years of its existence. Probably the greatest accomplishment has been its success in weaving the different lives and personalities of its members and of the communities it serves through music, sung from the heart. The Chorus is, truly, a family.

The chorus has been invited all over the country to perform, with major concerts such as;

World AIDS Day Memorial Services, Katrina Relief Funds, Benefit Concert

Habitat for Humanity, Tree Lighting Ceremony for Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Pride Parade & Performances 2002 to 2010, Benefit for the Children at Roswell Park Cancer Institute

We are excited to have the group part of the Pride Conference!
